Works on Paper 1970-1979
Today several of Peter Dotrel’s works of art on paper can be found in the graphics collection of the Viennese museum Albertina. This indicates the high quality of the artist’s dynamic works on paper. The red-white-black color scheme is dominating, which also is the case in the oil on canvas paintings after 1980. The energy of the gestic brush strokes and drawn lines is even increased in comparison to that of the oil paintings. The full spectrum of Dotrel’s motifs and form language is applied. The sketch-like nature allows a new perspective of the artist’s main topics and makes it possible to comprehend their formation. Even innovative variations are created because of the different features of the medium. The intuitive character of these works of art allows Peter Dotrel to formulate his innermost feelings, thoughts and emotions and enables him to commit them to paper.
