Born in Golling/Lower Austria in 1935, sculptor Oskar Höfinger is one of the most important students of Wotruba and a renowned representative of Contemporary Austrian sculpture. His early work is marked by Cubist „Crystalline forms“, figures whose stereometric bodies are split up into sharply defined surfaces.
In „Lovers“, Höfinger makes use of a motif that has repeatedly occured in his ouevre: two structures that seemingly hug each other in a spiraling movement. These sculptures are marked by the developed and confident hand of the artist, which allows him to translate his artistic intention into large gestures.
