„The following year, my fall trip once again took me to southern France, this time to see the Calanques, the more than twelve-mile-long stretch of rugged coastline between Cassis and Marseille in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
Since the Calanques, which I wanted to see from the sea, would have been extremely difficult to reach by boat, I was faced with a logistical problem that I was able to solve by chartering a helicopter. Taking off from Vence, I flew over the Côte d’Azur to Marseille and then made several passes along the Massif des Calanques, allowing me to experience the limestone cliffs and large expanses of the flat hinterland from different altitudes. The impression created by the new colors and forms was indescribable. This is how the paintings RYTHMES DES CALANQUES came into being.“
