The dynamic painting „Sanbao 2015“ by the Viennese painter Martina Pippal was created in 2016. It is not only a portrait but more a snapshot of the everyday work life of an artist in residence in Sanbao near Jingdezhen. Since centuries Jingdezhen is a site of production for Chinese porcelain. In the workshops artists from all over the world as well as from China closely work together. They learn from each other and share their knowledge. That far in the South it is not common to equip houses with heating. Therefore the employees are dressed in padded jackets and wear fur caps while working at the potter’s wheel with their bare hands always in cold water. They can use the rejections of their own products for themselves. Drinking tea together does not only help to keep warm but also to get to know each other. This is not always easy considering the great language barriers. But there aren’t any reservations especially not from the Chinese colleagues.
