Impressed by Roman frescoes and mosaics on a grey background during a visit to the Paris Louvre, Prachensky then intensively delved into the history and architecture of Rome over the course of several trips to Italian capital rom 2004 to 2006. The specific inspiration for “Farnesina Dixie” arose based on the observation of the frescoes of the Villa Farnesina in Rome, discovered in the late 19th century. Today, these are on display in the Museo Nazionale Romano. Using his own very individual imagery, Prachensky created an expressive, spontaneous piece in which he incorporates elements of what has been experienced and seen.
