Markus Prachensky "Etruria orizontale 10"

1932 Innsbruck/Tyrol – 2011 Vienna

“Etruria orizontale 10”
acrylic on canvas
51 ¼×69 in

Prachensky had already toured former Etruria in 1980 and 1982. However, in 1983 that his intense engagement with the local structures and the landscape lead to his creation of “Etruria orizontale”. The multicolored layers of ground, which were revealed by recent deep digging in the soft volcanic ground, and also the whitish dust of rocks fallen into the valleys in the lush green vegetation, impressed him especially. Prachensky began with the preparatory work in the same year, with the painting being completed in 1984.

In “Etruria orizontale 10”, Prachensky uses gestural signs to process his subjective experience of the Etrurian landscape, with the traces of the moving earth in his own unique, incomparable pictorial language. Paintings from this period of Prachensky’s life are among the most popular of his works.
