The international pinnacle of Viennese clockmaking is represented by special regulators – the so-called „Laterndluhren“ and „Dachluhren“. The precision movements of these elegant wall clocks were among the best of the first half of the 19th century and brought world fame to Viennese clockmakers.
„Dachluhren“ got their name from their straight case boxes with gable-shaped tops. In order to make the high-quality movement technology visible and to increase the elegance and lightness even more, the cases were largely glazed. Veneers were produced until the middle of the 19th century with a frame saw and with great loss of material. These 3 to 5 mm thick exotic mahogany veneers were therefore extremely precious. The elegant case of the present Viennese wall clock belongs to the type of „Rund-Dachluhren“ with semicircular pediments. The lunette features a so-called sunray inlay made of maple.
