This magnificent Viennese mantel clock impresses with its precious and extremely rare vase shaped case out of polished granite and fire-gilt bronze. On an octagonal granite plinth with ormolu fillets is a cylindrical granite socket with an ormolu base. The granite movement case is decorated with ormolu handles with masks and ormolu fillets. On the enamel dial is the signature of the clockmaker Friedrich Quinche who worked in Vienna during the early 19th century. The movement with anchor escapement has a Viennese grande sonnerie on wire gongs with repeater and turn-off for strike.
