This delightful miniature baroque clock was made by Lang, a watchmaker known only by his surname, who worked in Baden near Vienna at the end of the 18th century. The case is made of solid polished hardwood and decorated with gilt fillets and brass mounts. For better transmission of the bell sound, the case is provided with sound openings on three sides. These are covered with openwork wooden tendrils to keep dust and larger dirt particles away from the clockwork. The bronze front is engraved and fire-gilt and is decorated with silver-plated shell shaped mounts. A glazed front door with a retracted round arch gable is fitted in front of the dial. On the sides there are also glazed windows through which you can catch a glimpse of the movement. Inside the silver plated dial ring there is a brass alarm disc for the alarm on bell. The movement with verge escapement also has an hour strike on bell. Baroque clocks in miniature format are rare and highly sought after collector’s items.
